You’re not the only one struggling to keep up your exercise routine. With miserably dark evenings, heading out for a run or leaving your cosy home to go to the gym is not so tempting. We all need some winter work out motivation. So how can you keep that momentum from August? Read on for the best ways to NOT kick the habit, and stay in shape during the winter months.
Dress to impress
To be blunt (and obvious) – it’s really cold. If you usually train outdoors, you need to have the right kit. Get some quality activewear to suit your needs. You can buy thermal long-sleeve tips, leggings, gloves, hats, headbands, even socks! It will make your workout much more bearable, if not comfortable. It’s hard not to take your new trainers out for a whirl.
Make a plan
Set yourself a goal and schedule. Making a plan is a great means of motivation, and holding yourself accountable. Don’t wait for a New Year’s resolution – start now. Write your training sessions in your diary, put them in your phone, tell you friends when you’re supposed to do it. You can even use Auro’s handy schedule feature – you have no excuse!
Embrace the great indoors
No, we’re not talking about the gym. Cold weather doesn’t have to drive you to a gym membership. Bodyweight strength and HIIT classes can very easily be done at home. Especially with the help of the Auro trainers in your ear 😜
If you need more motivation, why not then sign up for a local exercise class? There are so many available nowadays! With spin, barre, hot yoga, there’s no excuse not to turn up – especially with a cancellation fee…
For all you runners, have you thought about joining a club? Running groups are an excellent form of motivation for cardio lovers, and it’s also a great way to meet new people in your local area.
Exercising on dark, cold winter evenings can be difficult. But remember, your workout will actually make you feel better in yourself! Exercise releases all those lovely feel-good hormones, helping to make you feel less stressed and in a better mood.
So even if you don’t fancy a workout, remember that afterwards you’ll feel amazing. If that’s not enough winter work out motivation, then I don’t know what is.
And you can bask in your smug glow in your cosy bed, cup of tea in hand, and Netflix on repeat. You’ve earned it.
